UK Overseas Trade in Goods, November 2021

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) collects the UK’s international trade in goods data for Non-EU and EU trade with the UK. These are published on a monthly basis and figures for November were released on 14 January 2021.

Summary

Total exports of goods for November 2021 were £29.8 billion. This was down £4.1 billion (12%) compared with last month.

Total imports of goods for November 2021 were £48.6 billion. This was up £3.1 billion (6.8%) compared with last month.

The UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £18.8 billion.

For EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £6.3 billion.

For Non-EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £12.5 billion.


Exports from the UK

EU Exports for November 2021 were £14.7 billion This was an increase of £0.3 billion (2.0%) on last month.

Non-EU Exports for November 2021 were £15.1 billion. This was an decrease of £4.3 billion (22%) on last month.

The USA accounted for 12.4% (£3.7bn) of the total value of goods exports from the UK. Germany had the second largest proportion accounting for 8.9% (£2.7bn) per cent followed by the Netherlands with 8.5% (£2.5bn), the Republic of Ireland with 6.7% (£2.0bn) and France with 6.0% (£1.8bn). The top five export partners accounted for 42.5% of total exports in goods in November 2021.


Imports to the UK

EU Imports for November 2021 were £20.9 billion. This was an increase of £1.3 billion (6.8%) on last month

Non-EU Imports for November 2021 were £27.7 billion. This was an increase of £1.8 billion (6.8%) on last month.

China accounted for 13.6% (£6.6bn) of the total value of imports to the UK. Germany had the second largest proportion of the total value of trade, accounting for 10.0% (£4.9bn) followed by Norway 7.6% (£3.7bn) the USA 7.1% (£3.5bn) and the Netherlands 6.7% (£2.3bn). The top five import partner countries accounted for 45% of the total value of goods imported in November 2021.
