HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) collects the UK’s international trade in goods data for Non-EU and EU trade with the UK. These are published on a monthly basis and figures for March 2021 have recently been released. (12 May 2021).

Summary
Total exports of goods for March 2021 were £34.9 billion. This was up £8.0 billion (30%) compared with last month.
Total imports of goods for March 2021 were £41.9 billion. This was up £7.0 billion (20%) compared with last month.
The UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £7.0 billion.
For EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £5.7 billion.
For Non-EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £1.3 billion.
Exports from the UK
EU Exports for March 2021 were £14.6 billion This was an increase of £2.6 billion (22%) on last month.
Non-EU Exports for March 2021 were £20.4 billion. This was an increase of £4.6 billion (30%) on last month.
Switzerland accounted for 16.3% (£5.7bn) per cent of the total value of goods exports from the UK. The USA had the second largest proportion accounting for 12.2% (£4.3bn) followed by Germany with 8.7% (£3.0bn), the Netherlands with 5.5% (£1.9bn) and the Republic of Ireland with 5.3% (£1.9bn). The top five export partners accounted for 48% of total exports in goods this month.
Imports to the UK
EU Imports for March 2021 were £20.2 billion. This was an increase of £3.9 billion (24%) on last month
Non-EU Imports for March 2021 were £21.6 billion. This was an increase of £3.1 billion (17%) on last month.
China accounted for 13.0% (£5.4bn) of the total value of imports to the UK. Germany had the second largest proportion of the total value of trade, accounting for 12.9% (£5.4bn) followed by the USA 8.5% (£3.6bn) then the Netherlands 6.2% (£2.6bn) and Belgium 4.6% (£1.9bn). The top five partner countries accounted for 45.2% of total UK import value this month.
