UK Overseas Trade in Goods, February 2021

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) collects the UK’s international trade in goods data for Non-EU and EU trade with the UK. These are published on a monthly basis and figures for February 2021 have recently been released. (13 April 2021).

Summary

Total exports of goods for February 2021 were £26.8 billion.
This was up £5.7 billion (27%) compared with last month.

Total imports of goods for February 2021 were £35.3 billion. This was up by less than £0.1 billion (0.1%) compared with last month.

The UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £8.4 billion.

For EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £4.7 billion.

For Non-EU trade the UK was a net importer this month, with imports exceeding exports by £3.7 billion.


Exports from the UK

EU Exports for February 2021 were £11.9 billion This was an increase of £4.3 billion (56%) on last month.

Non-EU Exports for February 2021 were £14.9 billion. This was an increase of £1.5 billion (12%) on last month.

The USA accounted for 12.7% (£3.4bn) per cent of the total value of goods exports from the UK. Switzerland had the second largest proportion accounting for 11.6% (£3.1bn) followed by Germany with 8.7% (£2.3bn), the Netherlands with 7.1% (£1.9bn) and France with 5.5% (£1.5bn). The top five export partners accounted for 45.6% of total exports in goods this month.


Imports to the UK

EU Imports for February 2021 were £16.6 billion. This was an increase of £1.8 billion (12%) on last month

Non-EU Imports for February 2021 were £18.7 billion. This was a decrease of £1.7 billion (8.5%) on last month.

China accounted for 14.1% (£5.0bn) of the total value of imports to the UK. Germany had the second largest proportion of the total value of trade, accounting for 12.1% (£4.3bn) followed by the USA 9.0% (£3.2bn) then the Netherlands 6.5% (£2.3bn) and Belgium 4.6% (£1.6bn). The top five partner countries accounted for 46.3% of total UK import value this month.
